The Annual Report on Women, Peace and Sustainable Security was published at Georgetown University in conjunction with the  National Geographic Magazine, describing the status of women in different countries on the basis of education, justice, political participation and economy. The report included each country's performance and ranking on the Women's Peace and Security Index and other indicators.

The report shows Iran ranked 118th out of 167 countries.

Most of Iran's indicators have improved compared to 2017, including the education indicator (women's mean years of schooling, ages 25+), which has increased from 8.7% in 2017 to 9.9% in 2019. The employment of women has also increased from 5.13% to 15%, although official statistics are higher, since semi-formal employment in Iran, despite its high level, is not included in the statistics.

Cellphone use (women ages 15+) has increased from 86.9% in 2017 to 93.6% in 2019, and Iranian women's access to services and bank accounts increased from 87.1% of the total female population to 96.6%.

Women currently hold a small percentage of the seats in parliament, which is reported to be 5.9%. In the discriminatory work norms (males 15+ who agree it is unacceptable for women to work), Iran is rated 38 from 100 which indicates profound discrimination. Son bias (male to female ratio at birth) in Iran was 1.05, which fortunately is very low.

Community safety (perception among women ages 15+) of Iranian women has improved significantly, from 44.6% in 2017 to 58.3% in 2019. Iran is also one of the countries that has taken important steps to reduce discrimination against women over these past two years.
